I will be in the lab room from 9:00am - 12:00pm. You may come at any time to take your Access and Lecture 4 tests. The two access and the two integrated projects assignments are due by 12:00pm. I will not accept any e-mails after 12:00pm on Wednesday. The semester ends on 8/4 at 12:00pm. No exceptions, sorry.
I have really enjoyed this class. It's been a bit different, but that's OK, for the most part it has been fun. I hope you have gotten something out of it and had a good time as well. Take the Access practice test, study hard, don't wait till the last minute to do these assignments, and we'll see you Wednesday.

Integrated Projects Files
As I said in class, the files for these assignments are NOT on the CD you found in the back of your lab book. The files are on all Brookdale computers. If you are not on one of those, you can follow these instructions:
Go to brookdalecc.edu
Hit the drop-down for ‘quicklinks’, click on academic depts.
Click on Computer Science
Click on Comp-129
Click on File Downloads
Last section has a link for Integrated Projects. Click on that.
That will allow a Zip file to be created on your destination drive. Open
the zip file and you should find all the files you need.

Last Teaching Class
This week will be our last teaching class of the semester. No tears please.
In Lab we will tackle Access chapters 1 and 2. THUMBDRIVES REQUIRED. In Lecture we'll discuss chapter 9. Lecture starts at 11:15am.
I will accept Excel assignments thru next week at 50% credit.
The scores for the Excel test were excellent, congrats to all on a job well done.
Stay cool. This is crazy.

Test Day
I will be in the lab room from 9:00am - 12:00pm. You may come anytime you like. You will be taking two tests, the Excel test and Lecture Test #3.
Excel assignments are due on Wednesday as well.
Anyone who has already taken a make-up test, please note you have no choice but to take these tests Wednesday. If you don't show, regardless of the reason, you will be getting zeroes on both tests.
I thought my rain dance was fairly effective last week. This week I'm going for the winning lottery ticket dance.
Stay cool. Where's Al Gore when you need him?

More Excel work, Excel Practice test
First things first. While I thought, as a whole, the classes did well with Excel this past week, I know some of you struggled. This is no time to kid yourself guys. If you were not 100% comfortable with the material we went thru, you need to get help, either with the learning assistants, with friends and/or family of yours. You have a test in 11 days, you will have most likely 4 assignments due then as well. Give yourself every chance to be successful, get help if you need it.
This week we will do Ch. 7 in Lecture. In lab will will finish Ch. 2, do Ch. 3, and hopefully hit the important points of Ch. 4. Regardless of how far we get, we will absolutely do the practice test as a class in the last hour of the lab time.
Lecture will start at 11:50am.
You have term papers due this week. Check the syllabus for the instructions.
I'm going back outside now and continue my rain dance. It actually did rain here for like 5 minutes this morning. I think I'm on to something.

Heavy Lifting Alert
I will go thru the complete schedule for the remainder of the class in Lecture this week. For each of the three teaching classes remaining (July 7, July 14, and July 28) the class times will be as follows:
Lab 1: 9:00am - 11:40am
Lecture: 11:50am - 12:30pm
Lab 2: 12:40pm - 2:50pm
I have shortened the lecture classes to maximize the time we have in Lab. We're going to need it.
This week, in lab, we will do:
Lecture Test #2 (ch 3 and ch 4)
Excel Ch1 and as much of Ch2 as we can get thru.
We will have a lecture, starting at 11:50am, on Ch. 6 (we don't do Ch. 5)
I have, with regret, eliminated the class participation exercises. Something has to give when a class is missed, and, because that's not part of the core class, the class discussions are the first item to go. Too bad.
Next week (July 14th) we will get as far in Excel as we can, but also leaving enought time for us to do the practice test as a class. I would rather do less of Excel and take the practice test in class than do all of Excel and no practice test.
Your term papers, originally due this week, will be due on July 14th. I like to review what is required the week before they are due, and I didn't have that chance last week.
Please study for this lecture test. It will be harder than the first one, and you have the added burden of an extra week between being taught and being tested.
I hope you are enjoying this fabulous weather, I hope you have a great (and safe) July 4th holiday, and we'll see you on the 7th.

Busy Class: Test, Excel, Class Participation
Greetings all. Before I forget, I think this week's class will run longer than I first scheduled for. Lab 2 will not begin before 12 noon.
Congratulations to Jonathan and Alex in Section 1, and Christopher and Sarah in Section 2. You were our top vote getters, you each receive 20 extra credit points. I thought everyone did a great job, we had many excellent presentations, I hope you enjoyed them as much as I did.
This week we will have no lecture. We will begin in the lab room with Lecture test #2, on chapters 3 and 4. This test is harder than Lecture test #1, please study accordingly.
We will then begin Excel. Excel is fairly tricky, if you have some knowledge of it already, great. But we will be doing things you have never seen before, trust me on this. Make sure you have those thumbdrives with you, we will, after completing chapter 1, begin chapter 2 but not finish it. You will have to save your Ch. 2 file and bring it with you the following week.
We will then have our first class participation exercise. Our first topic of discussion will be social networking via the computer. We will discuss whether you do it, what you like and dislike about it. While we want to have fun with the discussion, it is a gradeable element, worth 15 points to those of you that show up and contribute.
We have some interesting students in this class, to say the least. I can't wait for the class participation discussion with these groups!!
Enjoy the nice weather, study hard, and we'll see you on Wednesday.

Lab Test #1, Oral Presentations
This coming week you will be taking your first lab test on Word and Powerpoint. I hope everyone gets a chance to take the practice test that is on your Myitlab account. Trust me, you will be sorry if you don't.
we will also be doing our oral presentations this week. We talked about the required elements you need to do in class, please refer to page 3 of your class sylabbus if you need further help. Extra credit will be given to the two students in each class who, as voted by you guys, do the best job.
Your presentation files should be on your thumb drives, please remember to bring them to class.
This has been a fun class in the past, and I am very much looking forward to having this group show us what you got.
You have two assignments due this week, your Word assignment and your Blog. Please e-mail the blog address to me, and print out the Word assignment.
We will have a lecture on Chapter 4, beginning no earlier than 11:15am.
Lots of stuff going on this week, good luck with your work and we'll see you Wednesday.

First Test, Lab in Powerpoint, Lecture 3
This week you will have your first test, Lecture test #1 on Chapters 1 and 2. I have enrolled all of the students who gave me their access cards, with two exceptions. I can't access Webadvisor this morning for some reason, so I can't get a phone number ofr Kim Casino. Had another issue with a student that I sent an email to. Everyone else is good to go.
Login format is: 1st letter of your first name, last name, bcc.
Mary Jones would be mjonesbcc
password is 10 digit phone no, plus letter 'a'. 7325551212a.
I have a number of students who did not give me their card. If I don't have your access code by 8:00pm Tuesday 6/15, you will not be able to take the test this week. You will have to take it the following week, and please remember you only get to make-up one test for the entire class. Please e-mail me those codes!!.
When we are done with the test, in lab we will do our one and only chapter in Powerpoint. We will have a lecture class starting (hopefully) at 11:00 on Chapter 3 in the lecture book.
Study hard and we'll see you Wednesday.

Prelims Complete, Time to get down to business
This being a 10 week class, we get busy right away this week. We will do Chapters 1 and 2 in Word this week, it will be our only Word chapters in the class.
We will do Chapter 2 in lecture. Regular class times in effect.
Please have your books, thumb drives, and your testing code card with you this week.
A few notes on assignments. Nothing is due this week, several students have inquired about this. Assignments are due on 6/23.
That being said, with the condensed schedule we have, I would strongly urge you to do as many of your assignments ahead of time as possible. In two weeks you will have a Lab test to prepare for, an Oral Presentation to create, and a Word and Blog assignment due. that's alot. Do the Blog this week. You'll be glad you did.
The book may state differently, but you can blog on any subject you like.
See you Wednesday. One other thing. 10 points of extra credit for the first student to send me an e-mail saying they read this, or posts a comment on this blog.
